game elements
This week I read up on a few articles regarding game design
and development. The first article I read was http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/196691/the_ouya_experience_what_game_.php,
in this article they discuss the gaming platform Ouya and what various game
developers think of it. it was interesting to read what the game developer thought
about bringing their game to Ouya, how it would benefit them and/or hinder
their success.
Many of the developers go on to tell us how Ouya backed their
games and without the help and support of their team, their games may not of
been possible! It is interesting to read about these smaller game developers
and how a platform like Ouya helped them bring their dreams to light and kickstart
their careers.
Another article I read was http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/195806/chasing_the_whale_examining_the_.php,
in this article I read about Chris, in his mid 20s, slowly becoming obsessed
with the game Team Fortress 2. After stumbling upon a rare find in the game and
becoming overcome with excitement, he became addicted to that high.
This article was very interesting as Chris goes on to talk
about how his addiction got so bad and it became a real issue, and he put
forward the idea that these gaming companies are exploiting ‘whales’ like him
for money and good income. This was a very interesting topic to dive into as it
could be a very issue yet real issue!
The third article I read was http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/191441/nintendos_difficult_path_forward.php,
about the future of Nintendo as a company and the games it produces. In their
annual results feedback released recently, their was some disappointment for
the company. Which I thought was nice to hear such a huge and successful company
still have its hard moments, it gives us as readers a nice personal connection
with them as we all experience this.
The tone of this article was ‘if we can’t do better we walk
away from it’ which personally I don’t agree with, it gives off an attitude that
they’ll just give up, which isn’t a good slogan for a company! Yet it was good
to read about this companies issues as it helps us as game developers to note
tat even at the most successful, you can still have issues yet you can still
try and out do yourself!
